Barclays Premier League

Wigan v Liverpool

Live on ESPN

Kick Off 8.00pm

Out of sorts Wigan have only won one of their last thirteen games where they are winless in seven and unless they can learn how to start winning again, their Premier League status is at severe risk. The last time the Latics tasted victory was back in January at fellow strugglers Wolves but scarce wins have been the story of Wigan’s season where they’ve messed up when expected to win and triumphed when they haven’t been given a chance. Wigan’s short supply of goals has naturally been at the centre of their problems this season so Roberto Martinez could be tempted to field Victor Moses from the outset after the former Crystal Palace striker has caught the eye following a few appearances off the bench. Charles N’Zogbia and Paul Scharner face late fitness tests but are expected to be fit.

Liverpool could dislodge fourth placed Tottenham with the right result at the DW Stadium. After a troubled first half of the season, the New Year has seen Liverpool’s fortunes change and a recent defeat at the Emirates to Arsenal is the only real blot on a solid set of results. They will have to sharpen up in front of goal however if they want the points here as the Reds have failed to score in five of their last seven games away from Anfield, including blanks in the last three games. Rafa Benitez will be without Fabio Aurelio who has been ruled out for three weeks with a thigh injury but Daniel Agger should be fit despite picking up a knee injury last weekend.

We have two teams here who are having trouble finding the net so goals will probably be in short supply. Considering Liverpool’s unconvincing away performances of late, and Wigan’s knack of upping their game when up against a big name, the odds for the home win are far too big to pass over.
