This is a huge game for St Etienne, one which they really need to win in order to preserve their ligue 1 status. All eyes will also be on the Caen v Bordeaux match, so technically a draw might also be enough for Les Verts, but any defeat would definitely see them relegated.

The big problem that Alain Perrin’s men have is that their destiny isn’t in their own hands. Even a win here might not be enough should other results go against them, so the pressure is really on. Home advantage will be of vital importance and they’re fortunate to be facing an unmotivated Valenciennes.

The visitors have nothing left to play for except pride, although perhaps some of the players will want to win for their outgoing coach Antoine Koumbouare.

He will leave the club to manage PSG in the summer so will be eager to end on a positive note. All the pressure is on St Etienne and they are expected to win, overall I think they’ll deliver the goods.
