Barclays Premier League
Manchester Utd v Fulham
Live on Sky Sports 1
Kick Off 1.30pm
Man Utd will be eager for revenge against the team that inflicted their biggest defeat of the season. Fulham ran out convincing 3-0 at Craven Cottage a week before Christmas and it was a defeat that many said had almost put an end to United’s season due to Chelsea having a commanding lead at the top. That lead though has gradually been eroded and United now find themselves two points clear of the West London club but the Blues critically have played a game less. All eyes will be on arguably the best player in the world at the moment, Wayne Rooney, as he looks to add to his impressive record of 14 goals in 10 games in all competitions and Fulham will have their work cut out to stop him. Michael Carrick returns to the squad after missing the midweek Champions League win through suspension.
Fulham travel to Old Trafford unbeaten in five games having won three of them. It’s been an incredible season for Fulham who are still involved in FA Cup and Europa Cup action but unlike their solid home form, winning away from Craven Cottage has been a problem this season. This is highlighted by the fact that their one and only away win this season came in their first match of the season at stricken Portsmouth and they’ve been unable to win on their travels again since. Clint Dempsey, who figured in midweek against Juventus, could return to league action after two months out following knee surgery and despite a groin problem, Danny Murphy is expected to be fit.
With Fulham looking comfortable in the league, Roy Hodgson will almost certainly have his sights set overturning their 3-1 deficit to Juventus in the Europa Cup next Thursday so I pretty much expect United will have things their own way on Sunday with no shortage of goals.
