Semi Finals
Andy Hamilton v Raymond van Barneveld – 7.00pm
Barneveld is slowly warming to the task but he can think himself lucky he’s still in the tournament. After making hard work of beating Alan Tabern and Wes Newton in previous rounds, Barney cruised through his quarter final tie 4-0 against hometown hero Jacko Barry. Barry was never going to be any sort of match for Barneveld though and this tie should be disregarded in any thought process suggesting Barney should sail through to the final. En route to the semi’s, Andy Hamilton has shown huge amounts of determination having to get past the likes of Mark Walsh, Mervyn King and Kevin Painter. Hamilton’s not the biggest scorer, with an average of around 88, but what you do get is somebody solid around the doubles, highlighted by 4-ton plus finishes in his 4-1 quarter final victory against Kevin Painter. Barney is basically still in this competition due to his opponents being a bit slack when it came down to finishing the leg off, but he won’t be afforded that advantage against Hamilton. Hamilton will be a more than a match for Barneveld who has been fortunate and looks suspect under pressure and the odds of 3.25 make it a value punt.
