Rennes v Monaco 16/11/08 (17:00 cet)

Rennes suffered a surprise defeat in midweek as they were knocked out of the Coupe de la Ligue by Le Havre (1-2). The Bretons had been given a favourable draw and would’ve perhaps expected to have won, so the exit was probably a disappointment.

Now they must quickly refocus their attention back towards ligue matters and to this home clash against Monaco. Things have been going very well for Guy Lacombe’s men and they are unbeaten in 11 top flight games. Les Rouges et Noirs have been very solid and hard to break down, they have also gradually improved in attack.

The cup loss might’ve halted some of their momentum, but also probably gave them a ‘reminder’ not to take their foot off the gas.

Their opponents this Sunday are very unpredictable and anything is possible with Monaco. One week they can be hot, then the next they can be cold. The team seems to revolve in  mini ‘cycles’ where they go though good and bad periods.

These are the sort of games which Rennes sometimes have problems with, but if they play to their potential, then a victory is very likely.
